The EXANI-II is a test used by many of the country’s public Higher Education centers, including universities and also the Technological Institutes.
There are other admission exams that many institutions apply, but which are specific to each center, with their specific characteristics according to the criteria of each establishment.
The regulated or direct pass is another of the alternatives to enter the higher education system. It consists of accessing the study programs of a university institution without the need to take an admission exam.
The EXANI-II, also called National Examination of Entrance to Higher Education, is a test of skills and knowledge that is applied in the vast majority of educational institutions of the higher level.
This exam is in charge of National Evaluation Center (CENEVAL), commission in charge of the organization and evaluation of the performance of the applicants in the test.
The institutions that use the EXANI-II in their admission process request the service provided by CENEVAL and are the ones that establish dates and location of the exam, cost and registration period. This means that when you enroll in an institution that uses the EXANI-II as an entrance exam, you will have to go exclusively to that center in search of these data, since CENEVAL will not be responsible for providing you with that information.
In general terms, the dates established for the EXANI-II are during the months of May and June, but that will depend on each institution.
The test consists of 110 multiple choice questions, focused on intellectual skills (verbal and mathematical reasoning) and knowledge (Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Contemporary World and Spanish). This exam model must be solved by the applicant in two and a half hours.
In addition to this evaluation method in the EXANI-II, there is what is known as diagnosis, which consists of answering the questions that are part of one of the 12 diagnostic modules, which are based on areas related to the undergraduate options. , and consist of 88 questions each. This exam should be done in two hours.
It is the decision of each educational institution if the diagnostic test will also be taken into account in the admission process.
To take this exam, all prospective students of the higher level will have to pay a fee, which will be set by each institution according to its particular criteria.
The individual admission exams of each institution obey the criteria of the different establishments with regard to their admission process.
Although the vast majority of public institutions of the higher level use the EXANI-II as an entrance test, the truth is that other centers take tests prepared by their own evaluation commission.
In these cases, the tests consist of questionnaires, both multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions.
What is evaluated in these exams is the level of knowledge acquired by the applicant in secondary education. Therefore, these tests are focused on general knowledge, mathematical and verbal reasoning.
Universities that establish their own admission test generally offer two instances per year to take the exam.
The regulated or direct pass is an extraordinary situation that happens when students complete their secondary studies obtaining the baccalaureate degree in certain educational centers.
The essence of the regulated pass is the quality agreement that the universities have reached with certain intermediate level educational institutions.
This means that in Mexico there are certain high schools or secondary schools that establish contractual links with higher-level institutions, to allow those students who achieve a high average in high school, to directly enter the higher education programs offered by some establishments.
