Tell us about your career

As for my career, I can only say that the desire to succeed in the business world made me enter the world of work very quickly. While I was studying my degree, I dedicated myself to university debate, an activity that has contributed a lot to what I am now. At the age of 20 I began to teach public speaking and debate at the University of Barcelona, creating the subject from scratch. Soon after, I started as an assistant to the commercial director of an insurance brokerage, but I continued combining work with the classes I taught. From Barcelona I was leaving for Granada to open a financial consultancy and I was there for a year and a half until I decided once and for all to dedicate myself exclusively to training and create Inspiring FC. Currently I teach at the International University of Catalonia, I lead the same team with which we are beginning to obtain important triumphs in the Spanish university debate, I am a professor of the Postgraduate Course in Persuasive Communication at the University of Barcelona, of the Master of International Business at the University of Castilla la Mancha, the Postgraduate Course “Patients advocacy” of the International University of Catalonia, courses for PhD students in philosophy at the Public University of the Basque Country and various projects on public speaking sponsored by different entities. All this combined with the work that I develop with different politicians and company directors. In addition, I am currently developing new business lines at Inspiring FC with my partner Alba Gómez.

What motivated you to study Business Administration and Management?

The truth is that the main motivation was to know in depth the world of economics but also knowing the practical application that he considered essential to succeed in the business world. The desire to be recognized for my work made me believe that in the business world I could find everything that the “achievers” had.

What satisfaction has this profession given you? And how unhappy?

In my case, due to my strong entrepreneurial nature, it took me a few years to realize what the life project I wanted for myself was and what relationship I wanted my life to have with my work. At first, being subordinate to a hierarchical structure that in many cases I considered outdated made me desperate, but by the time I have started working on a project that I am passionate about, the satisfactions are daily. Feeling that people like what you do and controlling your “small” business is simply fascinating.

What do you think is the most important thing to succeed as an Administrator?

In the first place, have the sufficient base to master all those things that you must control every day and secondly understand that of the tools that you are given in your studies … you will end up using few, but they will be essential. In another vein, I could only say that it takes passion and above all perseverance.

As a professional, what advice could you give to a person who is thinking of studying this career?

I would tell you that if you are thinking of choosing Business Administration because “it has many opportunities” do us a favor and do not study it, but if you consider that the career will really give you the necessary tools to understand a global world, to develop your passions and to grow as a person who leads people, go head first to study this career.

Would you say that you chose a profession that allows you to travel the world?

Travel? Of course! I’ll tell you about my last month. I started the month traveling to Switzerland and meeting the candidate for the Congress of the Popular Workers’ Party, upon arrival in Barcelona I gave some classes I went to a rural house to give training for 3 days, from there I ran to San Sebastián (Basque Country) to give class to doctoral students, on the way back to Barcelona 3 more days of class and … heading to Salamanca, then Andorra, then Toledo … in short, I love to travel and I am lucky to do it very often.

Were languages important in your career?

Of course, and every day they are more important in such a global world.

Was it expensive for you to study?

The truth is that I was lucky enough to study at the public university when our Government had not gone out of hand with the tuition fees … but well, ignoring economics for me it was a precious stage in which obviously efforts had to be made , but that did not suppose me by far more efforts than those I have to do now.

Young people ask us about job opportunities. Has it cost you a lot to get a job? How did you do it?

I have never had a problem finding a job. I finished my degree and did the internships in a place where they were working for me as soon as I finished them. Then I jumped to another company even though the previous one tried to keep me, and now I have my own business. I think that with the right attitude nothing is impossible.

Regarding annual salaries and remuneration, in what rank would a Business Administrator with 5 years of experience be?

The truth is that I do not know what my former colleagues are up to in terms of salary, but if I have to speak from my experience, this is my range: from 35,000 to 40,000 US Dollars.
