The career offers the graduate the possibility of reconstructing and discovering some behaviors that ancient societies have had, their way of managing the economy; something that is attractive when thinking about a peculiar profession.

What tasks can an archaeologist perform?

It is important to highlight that the archaeologist should pay attention to the subjects that provide the theoretical and methodological knowledge necessary to carry out the different tasks in the field work.

Among the tasks that the Archeology graduate can carry out, we can highlight that within the different possibilities that can be presented to the professional, is that of carrying out a personal project, based on some hypothesis that he or she makes and in this way, working under national funding or international, depending on the interest that the research objective may have. In this way, in the beginning, it will carry out the search for the necessary information on civilizations, for example, to search for sites or vestiges of past societies.

Then, in this case, the excavations will come, where if an object is found, the archaeologist must verify whether it is authentic or not. You will have to compare them with existing records from that time and analyze it through laboratory tools. Usually this type of task is carried out in a team with professionals from other careers that complement the knowledge when searching, finding and registering the work. Everything that is found must be classified and inventoried, which is why archaeologists usually have the gift of patience and are very passionate about their work.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of studying Archeology?

With respect to what we mentioned in the previous paragraph, when talking about passion in work it is also important to mention the advantages and disadvantages that choosing a career in Archeology can bring.

Like many careers, it allows the option of working for the public or private sector. In the first, you can work in public administrations, in the ministry of culture, public museums. On the other hand, the private sphere offers the possibility for archaeologists to analyze construction sites, since some countries have local laws on soils that are cultural heritage.

In addition, they can work on their own research or develop in the academic field, in this case, some careers take teaching as a specific career orientation, where some pedagogical subjects are added. Among the disadvantages, it is important to note that, unlike other professions, and due to the advancement of urban areas, the labor market is not wide. In the cities it is more difficult to find a local job, so they usually have to move to the outskirts, to rural areas, and they must have a nomadic life, which often makes the social life of the archaeologist difficult. As a consequence of this, it is not considered a profession with a good remuneration.

Regarding the development of the profession, although the possibility that it offers to carry out field work is interesting, the aspect that the work must be outdoors can be considered a negative feature, facing any climatic factor that appears. The graduate of the Archeology career must work in rain, sun, cold, extreme heat, depending on the area in which they will carry out their research.
