Why study Architecture? | I do not know what to study

Architecture is the profession in which the most diverse elements converge to result in magnificent creations. The aim of the degree is to train professionals who are capable of covering from the design to the construction of buildings and public and private spaces suitable to host the activities of human beings in society.

Interview with Ana Belén, Architect UBA Argentina.

Do you want to be an Architect?

The creativity that allows to implement this profession is infinite. Those who decide to enroll in this degree should bear in mind that its study is very complex and requires great efforts, among others, the design and construction of sophisticated models that usually take a lot of time and dedication.

“The profession of the architect involves a wide range of tasks that go from the design and manufacture of family and collective homes, of buildings for commercialization and industry or recreation, to the planning and organization of urban public spaces. It includes various activities, among which the design and planning through models and plans, the direction of the designed works and the construction stand out. Professional development can be carried out both in the private sphere, independently or by integrating architectural work teams; as in the state public sphere, in national, provincial or municipal departments for the control, design or planning of buildings and spaces. The industry often incorporates architects in its technical teams to carry out research and production of technology and materials related to construction. Likewise, new urban developments make it necessary to incorporate architects into real estate management areas ”, indicates a renowned architect about the job prospects of the profession.

“I entered the Architecture career by family tradition. During the first year I was tempted to leave, as I spent long nights making models and studying and felt that I was not going to make it. However, I chose to persist and I understood that the effort was necessary to get to where I am today, about to finish it ”, indicates a student with respect to the frustrations that the student who is just beginning can go through.

Why study architecture?

  • Because you love building design and you are amazed by both new trends in construction and old buildings.
  • Because you believe in the aesthetics of a community and you want to work towards its visual improvement.
  • Because you like to create big, but you start by coming up with it in miniature.
  • Because you want to specialize in a particular branch of architecture that you are passionate about.
  • Because you would like to be an artist, but you also want to have an economic background that allows you to survive and you believe that this is the appropriate discipline to achieve it.
  • Because you have the empathy necessary to understand what people want to project and the patience to modify a plan or a model as many times as necessary.
