The odontology It is the branch of medicine that deals with people’s oral health.
Arturo is a Pediatric Dentist in his private practice and explains his experience to those who have an interest in this career:
─When and why did you decide to study dentistry?
─I chose him when I was still doing school, although more than a choice it had to do with respect for a family tradition. However, unlike what usually happens with these types of mandates, I always liked dentistry and spent hours helping my dad in his office to learn. The mouth is one of the most complex parts of the body, but nobody gives it the same relevance as the heart, for example, because it is not vital.
─Why did you choose to focus on children?
─When I was young I treated all kinds of patients, but I have a better relationship with them and they are the ones who most need restraint when going to see professionals who will put sharp elements in their mouths. I consider myself capable of giving them that restraint.
─Does being a dentist have any negative side?
─Yes, we are the bad guys in the movie. People are afraid of us and it is very common for people to enter our office pale and with a terrified face. It must be related to some myth or something like that, because it really shouldn’t make them worse than going to see any specialist. But, the truth is that when they come to see us it is a suffering, with rare exceptions.
─What is the occupational field of Dentists?
─We can take care of ourselves in hospitals, clinics or set up our own offices, alone or with associates. In addition, dentures are the same anywhere in the world, so we can exercise in any place that occurs to us. I have worked in several neighboring countries until I settled here.
