Studying Scenography is preparing to put on a stage or in the plane of a cinematographic production the essence of the place that one seeks to represent. The set designer is at once a designer, an architect and a craftsman. Recreate a space, bring it to life with lighting and set it at the time of the story that the work or film will narrate.
Guillermina is taking the last subjects of Scenography and, in this regard, she tells us that when she entered she found exactly what she was waiting for. “All my life I took theater workshops, I always liked it a lot as a corporal artistic expression, but I never dared to act in a play out of shyness. However, in order not to be left out of those who organized, I took care of the scenery of the stages, although only about that. For this reason, when I finished high school I chose this alternative, quite unconventional, where I learned and continue to learn incredible resources to create an environment conducive to each work, ”he says. Regarding job opportunities, Guillermina clarifies that, except for those who get a job on television channels or with large production companies, it is not a very profitable activity, so it is done more “for the love of art” than anything else.
“The decorating techniques are very interesting. Creating the atmosphere inside a spaceship is not the same as creating the atmosphere in a 17th century home. The subject of lighting is very important in our work, since any spotlight that is not in the exact place it should be can completely spoil a work ”, he explains. “If a play has a magnificent script but the place where it is narrated is not projected on the stage, it is meaningless. The same is true in television programs, for example, even if it seems less important. A news program cannot have the same scenery as an entertainment program ”, he adds.
In addition to studying everything related to Scenography itself during the degree, students are trained in directing works and audiovisual productions, in oral and written communication, in research, in theater and in costumes, among others. The objective is that professionals have a comprehensive profession that allows them to interpret all aspects of their future work.
Why study Scenography?
- Because you like that the productions, both television, cinematographic and theatrical, make sense from their aesthetics.
- Because you like the behind the scenes more than the leading role.
- Because you like to design and decorate.
- Because you love performing art.
- Because you have the ability to interpret what people want to project, since you will have to understand and correctly reflect what the director intends.
- Because you like to investigate, since you will have to do it with respect to the sites in which the stories are developed.
