Description

The Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) it is an educational stage compulsory and free for school-age students. It stretches throughout four academic years and access after having completed the Primary Education stage.

In the different subjects, it works in a transversal way: reading comprehension, oral and written expression, audiovisual communication, information and communication technologies, entrepreneurship, and civic and constitutional education.

The educational centers design schedules and educational offer of each course following the indications of the Educational Administration. Each center has its own educational project in which it defines its identity, values, pedagogy, didactic methodology, etc.

Access

Compulsory Secondary Education is carried out in educational centers public, such as Institutes of Secondary Education (IES), private or arranged, such as ESO schools or schools that offer different educational levels (Infant, Primary, ESO and Baccalaureate).

Access to public and subsidized centers will be regulated through a process of pre-registration under conditions of equality and freedom of choice of center. If there are not enough places, the admission process will be governed by the following criteria Priority when allocating places:

  • Existence of siblings enrolled in the center or parents or legal guardians who work in it.

Evaluation

The evaluation of Compulsory Secondary Education is continuous, formative and inclusive. It can be promoted from one course to another when there is a positive evaluation in all subjects or negative in one maximum of two subjects.

The measures adopted by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training as a result of the health crisis of COVID-19 allow educational centers to make the promotion criteria more flexible in all ESO courses, as long as it is authorized by the Ministry of Education of the autonomous community.

The grade repetition will be considered an exceptional measure. A global evaluation will be carried out in which failures will no longer be the only criterion to decide if the student goes on to the next year.
